Are you interested in teaching your Kids martial arts at home? With the lockdown restricting us from driving our kids to the gym, it can be a real challenge to keep them in shape and to teach them valuable marital arts skills. The good news is you can still train them despite being locked up in your home. However, you must first determine what type of marital arts you want your kids to learn. It also helps to make them understand why learning this form of combat arts is necessary to encourage them to cooperate.
Why Are People Interested In Martial Arts?
There are actually four reasons why people are interested to get into martial arts training – one, to learn self-defense, two, to lose weight and to get into shape and third, to learn how to fight and last but not least to improve mindfulness.
The sad reality of the world we live in today is that bad people with bad intentions exist. These people could be plotting violence against you or they could act impulsively because they are mentally unstable. Regardless of their motive, if these people try to tackle you would you be able to defend yourself? With martial arts, you can because you will be taught how to win over your opponent through drills.
#2 Weight Loss
Martial arts training will really shed off the excess pounds and will help you achieve the body you want. The combinations of moves will burn calories especially the kicks and the strikes.
#3 Learn Combat Skills
If winning a competition is your goal then you should definitely invest in a coach and during your training you’ll need a partner to spar with because that’s how you’ll be able to practice and apply your skills. The more training partners you have the better because you’ll be able to practice how to tackle and win over different fighting styles.
Mindfulness is another skin you can master by learning traditional martial arts. The upside if this is your goal is you can actually do it alone.
How Can You Practice Martial Arts At Home?
One major advantage of being a part of a technologically driven generation is that you can access numerous tutorial blogs and videos online. Basically, before you start training you should collect and compile a list of links that you can use to learn about the basics of martial arts. If you have zero knowledge on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we recommend you read pieces of information about it first to get a feel of what you are about to go through for the next days or weeks.
Once you have your resources ready, make sure you do warm up exercise at least 5 minutes before you start. Stretching and warm up exercises are very important to minimize your risk of injuries. Stretching your muscles prior to training also allows you to move better. Stretch both your arms and legs to avoid straining your muscles. If you don’t know any stretching exercises, you can check them out on YouTube. Never skip this step.
Aside from learning the moves, to be better at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it’s also important that you establish a regular workout routine to improve your cardiovascular system and to strengthen important muscle groups especially the muscles in your upper body, core and legs.
It’s also vital to take note of your stance. Your stance will determine the efficacy of your defense and your strikes. If you get this wrong you won’t be able to out win your attacker.
When training at home, we recommend you focus on stamina, flexibility, agility and strength. Also, master the basic steps first before you go into combinations. Always remember, practice makes perfect. The more time you commit to training the better you will be and once the lockdown is lifted, the trainings you did at home will be worth it once you go back to the gym.
